Timothy M. Kane, Chairman
Tim founded Delta Media Inc. following nearly two decades with leading advertisers, advertising and public relations agencies, as well as governments in Canada and abroad. He is recognized as a strategic and creative communications planner who is attuned to public and political environments.
In addition to his responsibilities as chairman of Delta Media Inc., Tim has served as chairman of the Americas region board of directors of the Worldcom Public Relations Group Inc. He is also a former advisor to Worldcom’s global board on trademark issues.
Tim has provided media relations training, coaching and counsel for more than 30 years, including several years as senior speech writer to the Minister of Energy, Mines and resources (now Natural Resources Canada).
He was one of the first recipients of the Alumni of Distinction Awards given by St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario and was nominated in 2000 for the Ontario Premier’s Award for outstanding contributions to his community and profession.
In 2001, following the September 11th terrorist attacks, Tim was co-chair of the Canada Loves New York campaign in Ottawa. In 2002, he was awarded the Golden Jubilee Medal of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to Canada.
In 2007, Tim led the renewal of the National Press Club of Canada. In 2008, he was honoured as the first inductee to the Algonquin College’s Media Hall of Fame in the public relations category.
Sheena Pennie, BSc, President
Co-founder of Delta Media Inc. (1991), Sheena has provided strategic communications counsel on many of Canada’s high profile issues over the past 28 years, 13 of which were spent with the Federal Government. She has also served as official spokesperson in French and English on several sensitive files, including the GST, the Department of National Defence and Library and Archives Canada.
Sheena has extensive experience in leading national and international media relations programs that require well-developed and executed media strategies, media accreditation/handbooks, media briefings and carefully managed media pools for high-profile photo-ops. She is well-versed in conducting special events with VIPs, public officials and dignitaries such as the Governor General, current and past Prime Ministers and foreign Heads of State, where official protocols must be adhered to and respected.
Fluently bilingual, Sheena earned her B.Sc. (Hons.) in Language from Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, where she majored in translation and interpretation.
Sheena has been nominated for both the Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the Ottawa Businesswoman of the Year Award and is often called upon by Canada’s national media to comment on political campaigns.
Bernard Gauthier, PhD, Executive Counsel
With more than 22 years of experience in public relations, strategic communication planning, crisis communication and advertising, Bernard’s clients include leaders in government, the association sector and health care. As President of the firm’s research subsidiary, Vision Research Inc., he has developed innovative ways for clients to gain valuable insights into their audiences.
In addition to Delta Media’s Positive Media Relations and Powerful Presentations Skills training and coaching programs, Bernard delivers our Strategic Communication Planning and Proactive Crisis Communication workshops.
In addition to his senior role with Delta Media, Bernard is professor of public relations at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario. He recently completed in PhD focusing on inter-professional communication in health care. He is a frequent commentator on political image and advertising, having appeared on CTV, CBC, Global and CHUM Television as well as leading radio stations and newspapers across Canada.
Karen Bennett, BA (Hons), Vice-President, Client Services
Karen Bennett has 13 years of experience as a senior-level communications, marketing, public relations, event planning and market research professional.
As Vice-President, Client Services at Delta Media Inc., she provides hands-on practical project management and executive counsel services as well as higher-level planning services, which involve synthesizing complex challenges into real and implementable solutions. The outcome is marketing and communication initiatives that run smoothly and are insightful, timely, well-managed, carefully planned, on budget and most importantly, successful.
As a corporate trainer, Karen teaches clients to understand how to think strategically, in addition to delivering Delta Media’s Social Media 101 workshop.
Karen earned her BA (Hons.), with distinction, in Communications at the University of Ottawa, where she focused her studies in marketing and international business.
Karen is an active member of the Canadian Society of Association Executives, the Canadian Marketing Association, the Market Research and Intelligence Association and sits on the board of the SOS Children’s Villages Canada as a Communication Advisor in Ottawa.

As Account Coordinator, Janelle Duguay specializes in marketing and communications, and supports Delta Media’s full range of strategic communications planning, market research, training, media relations and creative services. Janelle is a top-ranked graduate of the Telfer School of Management and boasts certifications in leadership development, mediation and group problem-solving. An avid user of social media, Janelle is fluently bilingual.
Janelle graduated cum laude from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing. Prior to joining Delta Media, she worked in sales and marketing with one of the works largest business equipment and IT consulting firms.
Janelle shares her passion for the wellbeing of her community and enjoys keeping a balanced lifestyle as a runner, advocate and volunteer. Since 2011, she has served as Growing up Great Chair for United Way Ottawa’s NextGen Cabinet.
Ken Anderson, BA, Senior Trainer, Executive Counsel
With more than 35 years in communications as a broadcaster, reporter, editor, communications director and consultant, Ken Anderson is a seasoned communication strategist, media relations specialist and public relations practitioner. As Vice-President of Delta Media Inc., Ken is responsible for the high-level thinking that goes into many of the firm’s most successful strategic communication and media relations plans. He also leads the development and delivery of Delta Media Inc.’s training seminars.
Throughout his career, Ken has managed media initiatives ranging from prime ministerial news conferences to a major public event involving HRH Princess Margriet of the Netherlands. He has also developed marketing campaigns and communication strategies for organizations such as Ottawa Public Health, Champlain Community Care Access Centre and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada. His training clients include several members of Parliament and their staff, the Canadian Judicial Council, Ontario Real Estate Association, Canada’s Mortgage and Housing Corporation and Parks Canada.
Ken is a graduate of the Political Studies program at the University of Guelph.
William Stairs, PhD, Senior Trainer
William Stairs boasts almost two decades of hands-on experience at some of the highest levels of government. He delivers media relations, crisis communication, and message-development training, counsel and coaching for clients up to the most senior levels of government and industry.
William possesses an in-depth knowledge of the public policy process, and the inner workings of the federal political, bureaucratic and parliamentary systems. He worked as communications director for two federal party leaders, served the Prime Minister as director of issues management, and was chief of staff to two federal ministers.
Fluently bilingual, William received his PhD at the Université Laval, where he studied Canadian history.
Kathie Lynas, Executive Counsel
Kathie Lynas has more than 30 years’ experience in the communication field – with a varied career that has included broadcast and print journalism, communication consulting, professional writing and training. She provides media relations and presentation skills training for Delta Media.
After graduating from the Journalism program at Carleton University, Kathie worked as a radio newscaster and local news reporter, in Ottawa and Toronto. This included 14 years as a member of the Parliamentary Press Gallery – first as a reporter with a national radio network and then as a correspondent for Global Television. She has also reported for newspapers and magazines.
Over the past 18 years, Kathie has delivered media and presentation skills training to a range of clients in the public, private and association sectors.
Laszlo Szabo, Senior Trainer
Laszlo Szabo has worked in the communications business, on both sides of the microphone, for over 35 years. This includes almost 20 years during which he has delivered media spokesperson and presentation skills training.
Fluently bilingual, Laszlo studied Journalism and Communications at Laval University in Québec City, before joining the CBC as public affairs reporter in 1975. He also worked as a reporter with the Broadcast News/La Presse Canadienne news agency in Montréal.
Beginning in 1980, Laszlo served two federal Cabinet Ministers as press attaché and communications advisor and later held management positions with the Canada Post Corporation, including senior spokesperson and divisional Manager of Communications.
David Coulombe, BSocSc, Senior Trainer
David Coulombe has been in the communication field for more than 25 years and has delivered training for over 15 years. Prior to joining the Delta Media team in 2004, he worked in radio as a reporter and program host. For a time, he also served as communication director to Mayor of the City of Gatineau.
David has extensive experience providing media relations and presentation skills training. In addition to the training he provides through Delta Media, he teaches public speaking at St. Paul University. For more than 10 years, he also taught journalism at Ottawa’s La Cité collégiale.
David is a graduate of the University of Ottawa, where he studied Canadian politics, and the Cégep de Jonquière, where he completed the print journalism program.
Michael Tansey, BA, Senior Trainer
Michael Tansey has worked in the communication field since he began his career as a broadcast journalist in 1982. He has more than 15 years’ experience as a trainer.
Michael has an excellent understanding of Canada’s public policy and media landscapes as a result of his experience as a journalist covering the Ontario Legislature and the Parliament of Canada. He also has served as senior communications advisor for both Royal and judicial commissions of inquiry on topics ranging from education to the Bombing of Air India Flight 182. His varied career also includes stints as assistant press secretary to the Premier of Ontario and media relations counsel to the Mayor of the City of Ottawa.
Michael is fluently bilingual and a graduate of the Communication Studies program at Concordia University, in Montreal.
